Fiberglass insulation soundproofs and protects against fire

Fiberglass

In Gatineau, Ottawa and all throughout Outaouais, CPO ISOLATION offers insulation services of attics with blown fiberglass, as well as insulation of walls, floors and ceilings with flexible fiberglass panels. Our services are offered for both residential and commercial environments.

Fiberglass panels for walls, floors and ceilings

We use flexible fiberglass panels to insulate the walls, floors and ceilings. In terms of energy efficiency, fiberglass provides an R-value (thermal resistance) of up to R-40 for wood structures, R-28 for prefabricated wood structures and of R-20 for steel structures.

Flexible fiberglass panels reduce noise transmission through the exterior and interior walls, as well as through the floors and ceilings. In addition, this insulator does not produce any formaldehyde emissions. The panels are non-combustible, do not rot, do not deteriorate and do not sag.

Blown fiberglass insulation for attics

The fiberglass used for attic insulation is made of recycled glass and silica sand. This insulator is in the form of loose fibers that are blown using a machine. On the market for close to 90 years, this insulation has been proven to protect living spaces.

In winter, fiberglass insulates, while in summer, it keeps the heat outside. This insulation allows for good savings in air conditioning and heating, since 30% of the heat is lost through the roof when the attic is poorly insulated.

It should be noted that in attics, bulk fiberglass can be blown over existing fiberglass insulation, in order to increase thermal resistance (R-value) and energy efficiency. The insulation can also be blown in irregularly shaped spaces and in some hard-to-reach places.

Advantages of blown fiberglass

Blown fiberglass has many advantages. The R-value of this insulator is R-3 per inch of added insulation, so the thermal resistance can have an unlimited increase. In the attic, this insulation can be blown until it reaches an R-70 value on the ceiling!

Blown fiberglass penetrates the nooks and crannies of the surfaces it covers. This provides seamless insulation that is uniform and complete. In addition, since this material does not contract, the efficiency of insulation remains excellent even after many years.

On the soundproofing side, blown fiberglass naturally absorbs noise. Each inch of fiberglass increases the sound transmission index by several points.

Another advantage: this insulator is naturally non-flammable and is often used as a fire stop. In addition, it does not attract insects and rodents. Certain manufacturers of fiberglass use recycled glass, which is more environmentally friendly than burying this glass as waste. The blown fiberglass that our team uses is formaldehyde-free and does not emit any toxic fumes.

In terms of humidity resistance, it is worth noting that blown fiberglass does not absorb moisture, so no mold can develop. In addition, this material is anticorrosive when it comes into contact with metal pipes or wires.
